Review of 'Pepper Lane Sweet Shoppe' - KT Dady

Welcome to Pepper Bay, where you’ll find love, drama, and a happily ever after.

Snuggle down with this cosy, feel-good, comfort read that whisks you away to a beautiful bay on the Isle of Wight – Perfect for fans of Christie Barlow, Alison Sherlock, Rachael Lucas, and Holly Martin.

The Pepper Bay books are standalone stories, best read in order, that intertwine with recurring characters.

Pepper Lane Sweet Shoppe: Erin Mason didn’t know she had any family left, so when she inherits a sweet shop, she’s not entirely sure what to do. There isn’t much else going on in her life, so she goes to check it out in Pepper Bay. After all, a short trip to the Isle of Wight is hardly going to change her life.

It's a mark of the writing of this series that things which anywhere else would seem utterly unbelievable, can be accepted as normal in Pepper Bay. I can't imagine a community that has a B&B effectively run on donations. Nor can I imagine one in which every stranger who turns up is welcomed with such open arms, into what is more akin to a giant family, than a community. However, when KT Dady writes about both, I have no issue with accepting this as reality. The other thing I like about this series is the attitudes of the characters towards life. In so many HEA books, the lead characters have nothing essentially wrong with their lives and yet spend half the book bemoaning how dreadful their life is. And frankly, it's irritating. Not so, in Pepper Bay. Here, the characters have genuine life issues and are rarely actively looking for a man (or woman) to fix them. Nevertheless, they don't weep and wail and rant about how unfair life is, they do what regular people do - pull their socks up, get on with their lives and hope for something better just around the corner. It's incredibly refreshing!

Tyler and Erin are both a bit lost by the beginning of the book and whilst I wouldn't necessarily recommend inviting a complete stranger to move into your house, it's Pepper Bay, so of course it works out fine and they get their HEA, albeit with a few stumbles along the way. The 'ex-partners who don't want to let go' is something I think too many people will be familiar with and once again, we get the gentle showing of how that kind of behaviour is not okay, which seems to have become a trademark of the later books in the series.

I know what to expect from this series and this instalment doesn't disappoint. If you're feeling glum, these books are perfect pick-me-ups.

Author Bio – Hello, I’m K.T. Dady. I’m the bestselling author of the Pepper Bay series. I’m also a chocolate lover, mum to a grown-up daughter, and a huge fan of a HEA. I was born and raised in the East End of London, and I’ve been happily writing stories since I was a little girl. When I’m not writing, I’m reading, baking cakes, or pottering around in my little garden in Essex, trying not to kill the flowers.
