Enough is enough, Nigel thought. Someone has got to do something. The last flood had reached the top step of his house and it was pure chance that the water had not leaked under the door and into the hallway. The town desperately needed flood defences but according to the council, there was no money for any. DIY had never been a strength of Nigel’s. Still, he thought, I’ll give it a go. After all, I can’t do a worse job than this lot are. He picked up his toolkit and headed for the beach. I’ll be the town hero.
